49 / 52 : “Happy Day”

Spring is here…finally, sort-a. This is my husbands Spring Break from work, and for the most part, the high temperatures are in the 50’s. However, on the day we arrived home from spending a wonderful Easter weekend with my in-laws, the weather was so gorgeous we had to get outside! Yesterday we grabbed some bubbles, my son’s airplane, a blanket…and NO jackets, HELLO…then headed over to Colonial Williamsburg for an afternoon of playing.

Happy Day

Looking forward to more warmer weather in the coming weeks. Spring is such a beautiful time up here. Pretty, invigorating, colorful, breezy…where’s that blanket? I would like to nap in the warm sunshine on a lazy afternoon please…

Well, this post is a BIT late. I took a sort of computer break this past week…taking care of sick kids. Yesterday was the 4th of July, our country’s day to celebrate independence. It is a beautiful time to spend with family and friends – to pull out the grill and enjoy a warm (or hot in this case) summer day, always remembering those who fought, and fight now for our freedom.

This is the first year we were able to go out to Colonial Williamsburg and sit among the thousands on the historical Lawn and watch the amazing fireworks display behind the Governor’s Palace. It was wonderful to hear the Virginia Symphony Orchestra serenade the crowd as a prelude to the light show. The building behind us is the Courthouse that comes equipped with its own stocks right outside.

My son had fun putting on his own light show with the glow sticks his Daddy bought him.

The fireworks were awesome…loved them! Can’t wait for next year 🙂

I love where I live. Today during a rather warm winter day, my family and I took a wonderful weekend stroll through one of our favorite places. It is right around the corner and such a peaceful place to enjoy the weather and some quiet thoughts. The history is beautiful, the architecture is stunning, the animals and costumes are heartwarming….ohhh Colonial.

It is also pretty funny to walk around where I had vacationed many years ago as a child. See some of the same sites and take pictures in some of the same spots, now with children of my own. Makes me feel OLD. hahaha

Just for fun, here is a “Then and Now” of my brother and I:

In photo 1 you will notice the amazing headband and our clothing choices, we were a stylin’ duo. In photo 2 you will see what age has done to us…a difference of 17 years…wow.

Just thought I would throw in a a few extra shots of this gorgeous place…I feel a bit rusty at taking creative images, but Colonial speaks for itself.

Whispers of Autumn

I am not a native born Floridian, but I grew up there and call it my home. It is a beautiful, warm, sunny, rainy state that I truly treasure – everything from its palm trees to my favorite Gulf Coast beaches. However, the one thing that precious place is missing is seasons. Since my family moved northward, I have really been enjoying the change of temperature and foliage. It creates a great balance and gives me something to look forward to no matter what time of year it is.

All these beautiful leaves are right outside my kitchen window. It definitely makes doing the dishes a little more relaxing to be able watch the wind gently blow all the pretty colors around. Fall has become a true favorite of mine. Time for warm meals, harvest vegetables, hot chocolate, pumpkin pie, boots, scarves and that unmistakable cool, refreshing breeze.

We also went for a walk this afternoon through Colonial Williamsburg to indulge in the fabulous weather and let the kids play in the leaves.

They had a great time as always. It is such a treat to live by one of the most beautiful places to relax and walk around. The buildings, the history, the fences, the period garb, the gardens, the animals – enchanting.

The reds and yellows are hints between the green everywhere you look…

While running through the grass and leaves we were surprised to hear cannon fire. When we turned the corner to take a look….

Love this place.
