Word of the Week #3

This has been a busy week, lots of driving and running around town, a birthday party, news to bear and of all things, a gas leak in our apartment – no heat tonight! This week my body screams for this word:

“REST”

noun: the refreshing quiet or repose of sleep; refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor; relief or freedom, especially from anything that wearies, troubles or disturbs (dictionary.com)

synonyms: break, cessation, composure, downtime, quiet, interlude, tranquility, leisure, interval, dreaminess, refreshment, stillness, relaxation (thesaurus.com)

Everyone needs a little REST now and then. So many of us are busy from the moment we wake up (or get woken up by a little voice with “broken covers”) until the moment we close our eyes at night. Being busy is a good thing, keeps us active, focused, driven – but we can’t keep up that pace forever. REST is needed, deserved, and desired by all of us.

It is hard to find time for breaks with two little monkeys running around all day, so sometimes I make my own “downtime” with “quiet” moments of enjoyment. Whether it is reading a book in my son’s room while they play, snuggling with them while we watch a favorite show or like tonight having a moment of a favorite, homemade lasagna for dinner and a relaxing night of pumpkin pie, hot tea and a movie with my husband.

Here’s to a full, busy life with calm moments to stop and be thankful for what we have been given!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you REST.” Matthew 11:28
